Affiliated with LASA since 2009

I came to Amsterdam to become a researcher in the LASA group on invitation by my predecessor Dorly Deeg, where I started out as a senior researcher and eventually became the scientific director of the study. One of the main advantages of that position is that it allows me to be involved in a broad range of topics, all related to ageing. Because we have data on topics like physical functioning, social functioning, depression and cognition, medication use, hospital admissions, socioeconomic determinants and much more, this allows me to combine those topics and investigate cross-domain associations of themes and potential causal connections between them. Some of my main interests lie with the explanation of socioeconomic inequalities in health and resilience in old age. It is a privilege to be able to work with all my enthusiastic colleagues at LASA.

LASA has become a great source of scientific knowledge about ageing, thanks to those thousands of participants who have contributed loyally throughout the years. It is our responsibility to promote the use of the data in scientific research of the highest quality.
