The previous 19 variables with answers to the vignettes have been modified. When the answer is 'equal to previous children' then the answer is transformed into the 'intended' value (value -1, 1 or 2); 'do not know' and 'no answer' are summed (value -1). When Q1 is answered negatively, and consequently Q2 and Q3 are not asked, then Q2 and Q3 are also assigned 'no' (value 1). The modified variables receive the suffix 'b'; 'condensed' is added to the variable label.

A complication exists in counting the number of equal children (dvigeqp). When Mary = Sophia and Sophia = Emily, then by definition this would mean Mary = Emily. However, concerning the pairs that are identical, involving Sophia, dvigS3 (on work) is ignored. So when Mary = Sophia and Sophia = Emily, the answer to question 3 on Mary can differ from that of Emily. In this case two pairs are equal. To be able to make an estimate of the number of equal children the variable dvideqc was constructed.

dvigeqr equality vignettes: routing Q's (LASAd074)
The variable dvigeqr indicates the routing for the equality of the answers after the questions on the first child. Fifteen questions (or fourteen when Sophia is not the first child) have then been asked. A zero means that a substantial answer is given that differs from an answer given by the previously asked children. Once a zero has been ascribed, then the answer 'equal to the previously questioned children' expires for the following questions. A 1 means that a substantial answer is given, equal to all previously questioned children. A 2 means that the answer 'equal to previously questioned children' is given. Should a 1 or 2 be assigned, the following questions can still be answered with 'equal to previously questioned children'. Finally, a 9 means that the question has not been asked (question 3 on Sophia). This routing is also included in the variables dvigeq21 dvigeq22 dvigeq23 dvigeq24 dvigeq25 dvigeq31 dvigeq32 dvigeq33 dvigeq34 dvigeq35 dvigeq41 dvigeq42 dvigeq43 dvigeq44 dvigeq45 (LASAd974.sys).
