Advance care planning (ACP) helps individuals to receive medical care that is consistent with their values, goals and preferences. The ACP process includes defining goals and preferences for medical treatment and care, discussing these with loved-ones and health care providers, and documenting preferences and advance directives. My research focuses on ACP in the general population, using data from LASA: how do older people engage in ACP? What topics do they (wish to) discuss? What is the role of subjective life expectancy in starting ACP? And what are life events that are associated with starting ACP? Results may help health care providers in tailoring ACP initiatives to the experiences and needs of older people in the general population.
