My PhD research focuses on maintaining or improving functionality during aging. Functionality is dependent on both an individual’s intrinsic capacity as well as the environment in which they live. The interaction between intrinsic capacity and the environment is of great interest to me. An example of this is the idea that an optimal living environment can compensate for a declining intrinsic capacity, thus preserving the functionality of older adults. I will quantitatively investigate this interaction using longitudinal LASA data. Additionally, I am also interested in the needs and desires of older adults during aging, for which I will conduct interviews in the future to map these aspects.
