My work focuses on physical frailty in older adults, for which I regularly use data from LASA. Older adults with frailty have a higher risk of various adverse outcomes, such as functional decline, falls and mortality. Frailty is defined as a decline in reserve capacity in various physiological systems. Indicators of frailty are, amongst others, weight loss, exhaustion, slow gait speed and reduced muscle strength. I hold a PhD in Medicine from VUmc (Department of General Practice & Elderly Care Medicine), and I work since 2015 for LASA on various (international) frailty research projects.
